Contactless

    • All contactless credit, debit, and prepaid cards from the MasterCard, VISA, and American Express networks that display the contactless symbol;
    • Smartphones and wearables (Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and Samsung Pay) on which credit, debit, and prepaid cards have been added.
  • At the moment, you can only pay on board with contactless credit, debit, or prepaid cards from the MasterCard, VISA, or American Express networks, as long as they display the contactless symbol!

TIPS: For more information on how Tip Tap payments work, check here.

  • Your purchase is successful if a green light appears after you tap. A red light means the tap has failed.

Note: After 60 seconds, if you tap your card again, the validator will show the green light once more, but no new ticket will be issued. With the same card, you can only purchase one ticket.

TIPS: For more information on how Tip Tap payments work, check here

  • Yes. The system works with all devices where a card belonging to the supported networks has been digitized.

  • It’s simple:
    • On urban buses, you only need 1 TAP: hold your contactless card (or an enabled device) to the reader every time you board a bus.
    • On interurban, express, or mixed-fare buses, you need 2 TAPS: one when you get on and one when you get off. This allows the system to calculate the correct fare based on your journey.

Note: If you forget to tap when getting off on interurban or mixed-fare buses, you will be charged the maximum fare, i.e., up to the terminus!
    How to check?
Read this FAQ: “How do I know if my Tip Tap purchase was successful?”, or check here

  • If the urban line is green, nothing happens within the ticket validity time (70 minutes, 90 minutes in Florence). If you tap after the ticket expires, a new ticket will be charged.

Note: On green lines, you must tap every time you change buses.

TIPS: Check here for more information about line colors.

  • Orange lines are mixed-fare routes, and on these you must tap once when boarding and once when getting off.

Note: If you forget to tap when getting off on interurban or mixed-fare buses, you will be charged the maximum fare, i.e., up to the terminus!

TIPS: Check here for more information about line colors

  • The procedure is always the same:

    • Urban bus (green): tap every time you board.
    • Interurban (blue, violet) or mixed (orange): tap once when boarding and once when getting off.

TIPS: To learn more about line colors, click here.

  • With the contactless (Tip Tap) ticket, this integration is not available.

  • No, if you use the Tip Tap payment system you must buy a new ticket.

  • Remember: with one card, you can only buy one ticket for one passenger.

If your card is linked to multiple devices, you can buy one ticket with each device.

Note: Once you start your journey with a card, you must always use that same card or the same device for all subsequent taps.

TIPS: For groups, you can also buy carnet (multi-ride passes) or Blink tickets

  • If you forget to tap when getting off, you will be charged the maximum fare, i.e., up to the terminus!

  • It is a pre-authorization required by the banking network and independent of our system.

Note: This is a normal process to verify fund availability. It doesn’t mean that the €1 has actually been charged.

  • Just show the card or the device you used to tap. That’s it!

  • No, with this ticket you can only travel on buses.

  • The devices used for inspections do not read or store any personal or sensitive information, either from the card or related to the cardholder.
The checks are carried out solely to confirm the validity of the ticket, ensuring full anonymity and maximum data security.

  • Because the ticket cost may be charged after a few days. This is normal: it depends on your bank’s processing times.

  • The system recognizes these as two different payment methods. You will therefore be charged twice, as if you had bought two tickets.

TIPS: To avoid double charges, always use the same device: the same card, phone, or smartwatch.

  • Almost all our buses have contactless payment enabled. Only a few are not yet equipped. To recognize enabled buses, look for the stickers on the outside and inside of the vehicle.

  • No, no registration is required: just board and tap your card on the reader.

  • Through this portal, where you can also download receipts.
The ticket will be visible on the portal a few minutes after your tap.

The ticket can show one of these statuses:

    • PENDING – transaction in progress
    • PAID
    • NOT PAID – payment failed

Note: If you pay with a smartphone, smartwatch, or other device, you must have made at least one payment with the physical card to view and download receipts.

  • With Tip Tap, invoices are not issued. For your tax return, keep the receipt available on the portal.

  • It may be that the card was not held correctly against the reader. Try again, holding it still in front of the validator.

If the problem continues, possible reasons are:

    • The card is not accepted

    • Insufficient balance

    • Card expired

    • Card not contactless

    • Card temporarily blocked

In these cases, contact your bank to check.

TIPS: If you are using a digital wallet on a smartphone or smartwatch, try paying with the physical card.

  • If the Tip Tap validator isn’t working, you can ask the driver if it’s possible to buy a ticket on board (with a surcharge).
If this option is not available, you must get off the bus and buy a ticket through other channels.

Note: You must always travel with a valid ticket, validated/activated when boarding. Otherwise, you may be fined.

  • Yes, but with Tip Tap you can only buy full-fare tickets.

TIPS: To use the concession, you must purchase your ticket at company ticket offices, authorized retailers, or via the at bus app.
