Impatti, in collaboration with the Cortona On The Move International Photography Festival

Open call for photography for the 12x12 project in collaboration with Cortona On The Move

++ Update: the call has been extended to July 10, 2025 ++

"Impatti" (Impacts) is an invitation to take a closer look at the impact that every movement leaves on the world. It is not just about effects. It is about responsibility, connections, and what remains.

When we talk about impact, we often think of environmental impact: the effect that human activities have on nature, such as pollution, deforestation, or climate change. These phenomena clearly show how our actions influence the planet and the life it hosts.

But impact is not limited to the natural environment.

There is also a social impact, which manifests through changes in neighborhoods, communities, and relationships between people. Think, for example, of how gentrification transforms cities or how new ways of living influence social relationships.

Impact can be cultural, when traditions or habits change or are lost; it can be economic, when production and consumption choices change lives and territories.

In short, impact is the sum of the signs, reactions, and mutations of our ever-evolving world.

What are we looking for?

Photographs that tell the story of how humans influence and transform the territory and society. How a neighborhood changes over time, how a landscape is modified by human activities, or how the social effects of these changes manifest. We are not just looking for grand scenes, but also details that show everyday impact.

Some examples

  • The changes in a neighborhood where different generations or cultures live together

  • Nature resisting or adapting to human marks on a territory

  • Architectures that tell stories of communities and social transformations

  • Living in spaces, dietary habits, and radically changing landscapes

"Impatti" is an invitation to slow down to better understand. To take a close look at what happens when something moves: a car, a person, an idea.

Every movement leaves a mark. And every mark, if we look closely, can help us.

Why do we do it?

Through photography, we want to bring to light how every action, every choice leaves a deep and lasting mark on the world around us. We want to stimulate reflection on how human impact is part of our lives and our environment.

at and Cortona On The Move are looking for 11 photographers who have an unpublished idea or photographic project focused on the theme of impact, in all its various interpretations and nuances.

The 11 selected projects will be featured in the fourth edition of 12x12, which will open with a new chapter of the "Atlas of the New World" project by Edoardo Delille and Giulia Piermartiri.

The selected photographers will participate in a mentoring, support, and training program led by Simone Donati, curator of the fourth edition of 12x12, with the aim of developing, editing, expanding, and completing their photographic project.

12x12 - the project

"12x12" is a photo call project created by Autolinee Toscane and Cortona On The Move.

For three years now, through 12x12, we have been telling the story of public transport from a new perspective, through the work of twelve male and twelve female photographers.

The story infolds on the @at_toscana Instagram account.

The bus is part of the community and the daily life of people and places, carrying the former and traveling through the latter. Sky-touching stops, childhood memories, suburbs, onboard documentaries, personal stories, portraits, landscapes, and views from the window have all taken turns in this collective narrative, created by young photographers in the first edition and by over-65 artists in the second.

Cortona On The Move – the project

The Cortona On The Move international photography festival has been held in Cortona, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany, since 2011. A leading force in international photography, the festival is a key benchmark for photographers, curators, authors, critics, and the general public alike.
