Buxi

In Siena, BUXI is available: an on-demand service operating in some parts of the municipality.

Where and when

  • BUXI A serves Montechiaro, San Giorgio, Vignano and Val di Pugna
  • BUXI B serves Monastero, Ginestreto, Monsindoli, Montalbuccio, Terrensano and Belcaro

Routes are planned according to requests; the service runs Monday to Saturday (except public holidays).

There is no service on 1 January, 1 May, Christmas Day or Easter. On 26 December the service is suspended from 13:00 to 15:00. On 31 December it runs until 19:00.

How it works

You can book Monday to Saturday (except public holidays), 07:20–18:00, on the day before you travel.

We will call you to confirm your booking and departure time, which may be up to 20 minutes earlier or later than the time you requested.

To use Buxi you need the standard ticket or pass that you use on Siena's urban lines, at no extra charge.

Useful information

Buxi A: the terminus, and the interchange point with other city and out-of-town lines, is the stop outside Porta Pispini. Buxi A has 78 stops in total.

Between “Due Ponti” and “Porta Pispini” you can only get off (you can get on in the opposite direction). Buxi vehicles only stop to pick up at stops where a request has been made, and only for passengers who have booked.

Buxi B: the areas covered are Strada di Terrensano e Belcaro, Strada di Montalbuccio and Strada degli Agostoli. It will also be possible to reach Casciano alle Masse (including the cemetery), Strada Comunale di Casciano, Strada Provinciale di Montemaggio, Strada di Pian del Lago (La Fabbrica), Strada di Montalbuccio, Podere Quercetano and Fornicchiaia, which currently have no service. In addition, Buxi will serve Costafabbri, Ginestreto, Strada di Sant'Apollinare and Strada Provinciale delle Ville di Corsano, which are currently served by the regular bus. Thanks to Buxi, it will also be possible to reach other places that currently have no service, such as Strada del Ceraiolo as far as Doglia, Ginestreto beyond the current terminus, and Monastero.

Depending on requests, trips will end at the new Pescaia Alta area (with a pedestrian bridge, lift and escalator up to Via Battisti) or at the Ex-Macelli in Fontebranda (from here you can go up to the city centre on the Risalita del Costone, or take the “Pollicino” minibus to Piazza Indipendenza).

On the stretch between Costafabbri and the centre, and on Massetana Romana, on-demand passengers can only get off; in the opposite direction they can only get on.

You can always get on and off at Colonna di San Marco, provided you have booked. This stop is also the interchange point with other city and out-of-town lines.

Buxi B has 76 stops in total, 15 of them new, which make up its operating network.

The following fixed scheduled runs continue to operate at peak times, for workers and students.
